The Institute was honoured to welcome the European Union Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Gabriele Visentin, to Deakin Downtown for a special lecture exploring the importance of strong and resilient international partnerships.

Addressing an audience of students, staff and members of the wider community, Ambassador Visentin reflected on the value of keeping dialogue open in times of global uncertainty, the enduring strength of shared democratic values, and the critical role of cooperation between regions such as Europe and Australia.

The Ambassador’s remarks highlighted why the European Union remains a vital partner to Australia across trade, science and innovation, security, and critical minerals—areas in which collaboration continues to shape global progress. He also underscored the important contribution universities make in fostering international understanding and advancing informed, evidence‑based dialogue.

This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, led by Distinguished Professor Fethi Mansouri (PhD, FASSA), together with our Advancement and Research & Innovation teams. We extend our sincere thanks to all involved for their support in hosting this meaningful conversation.
