ADI Researcher on Prestigious List of Women in Science

Deakin Distinguished Professor Emma Kowal at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation has been included in the Cosmos Magazine’s list ‘50 remarkable and inspirational women in Australian science’, collated to mark International Women’s Day 2024.

Cosmos Magazine is a quarterly science publication produced by The Royal Institution of Australia. Its list of 50 women was produced with the assistance of the Australian Council of Learned Academies.

Professor Emma Kowal is a cultural and medical anthropologist at Deakin University with previous experience as a physician and public health researcher in Indigenous health settings. Her research interests include Australian racial politics and the anthropology of genomics, bioethics, and public health.

Professor Kowal said she was very pleased to learn of her inclusion on the list.

“It’s an honour to be recognised amongst this list of inspiring women. I’m grateful to Deakin and ADI for their support of women at all career stages.”
