Calls for Ideas: Migrants’ Voices in the 2022 Australian Federal Election Synopsium

Calls for Ideas: Migrants’ Voices in the 2022 Australian Federal Election Synopsium

In this two day symposium, we would like to encourage HDRs, ECRs, and scholars identifying from the Global South to be part of this symposium to observe and analyse migrants voices and opinions mobilised in the Australian federal election.

Teams of HDRs, ECRs, and scholars identifying from the Global South are strongly encouraged to apply.

Ethnic voices have long been marginalised in the research of Australian federal elections, including on social media.

This two-day joint synopsium will focus on a variety of political information produced, mobilised and consumed by diasporic communities during the 2022 Australian federal election.

The synopsium seeks to cultivate diversity, equity, mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.

We invite proposals on themes that include, but are not limited to:

  • Mapping out a diverse range of actors and factors that shape Australia’s multi-ethnic public sphere during the election;

  • Migrants’ political literacies that inform their civic participation;

  • The production and/or the circulation of election-related news information among diasporic communities.

 If you are an HDR, your presentation does not have to be part of your current PhD project. As long as you are interested in observing and analysing migrants opinions during the election, this symposium will provide you a space to find someone to collaborate with and to get support and mentorship to take your ideas further. Please consider submitting your ideas or proposal here by 10 June.

To be part of the symposium, please submit research proposals (up to 250 words) and short bio(s) to mv22afe@gmail.com by 10 June, 2022.
