ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Professor David Lowe conducts research in a number of aspects of contemporary history, including: the uses of history by politicians; remembering conflict and political transitions; the growth of international students as a factor in cultural diplomacy; and the history of Australia’s foreign and aid policies, including overseas diplomatic representation.
Dr Will Smith is an anthropologist and human geographer whose research is focused on human-forest interfaces, the social dimensions of agricultural production, and the politics of indigenous knowledge in both Australia and upland Southeast Asia.
Danielle Tyson is Associate Professor in Criminology at Deakin University and Co-Convenor of the Deakin Research on Violence Against Women (DRVAW) Hub. She is nationally and internationally recognised for her interdisciplinary work on family violence, intimate partner homicide and filicide.
Associate Professor Tanya King is a maritime/environmental anthropologist interested in issues relating to natural resource management. Current research interests relate to mental health in the fishing industry and the role of environmental policy in securing fisher well-being. She leads a project funded by the Fisheries Research Development Corporation, called Sustainable Fishing Families.
