Although National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) have become increasingly popular inclusions in peace agreements and transitional justice processes, little consideration has been given to the risks posed by post-conflict contexts to their credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness.

Although National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) have become increasingly popular inclusions in peace agreements and transitional justice processes, little consideration has been given to the risks posed by post-conflict contexts to their credibility, legitimacy, and effectiveness. Drawing on the case of Nepal, this paper highlights the risks associated with NHRI involvement in transitional justice processes in contexts where demands for impunity outweigh accountability.
