The Culture, Environment and Science research stream at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (ADI) focuses on exploring the intersections between cultural practices, environmental sustainability and scientific innovation. This interdisciplinary approach aims to address complex global challenges through collaborative research.

Meet Our Stream Leaders

  • Dr Billy Griffiths is a historian and Senior DECRA Research Fellow at ADI. He lectures as part of the Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies program. 
  • Dr Lilian Pearce is a Research Fellow at ADI and an award-winning environmental humanities scholar working across fields of environmental history, human geography and political ecology.

Our Research Focus

  1. Cultural Studies: Investigating the role of cultural practices and heritage in shaping societal values and behaviors.
  2. Environmental Sustainability: Examining strategies for sustainable environmental management and conservation.
  3. Scientific Innovation: Exploring the impact of scientific advancements on society and the environment.
