The People, Place, Heritage research stream at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (ADI) focuses on understanding the intricate relationships between people, their environments and their cultural heritage. This interdisciplinary approach aims to uncover the ways in which heritage shapes identities, communities and social practices.
Meet our Stream Leaders
- Professor Gaye Sculthorpe is a Research Professor, Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies, at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University.
- Dr Jason Gibson is a Senior Research Fellow (DECRA) in the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University.
Our Research Focus
- Cultural Heritage Studies: Investigating the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage, including tangible and intangible assets.
- Community Engagement: Collaborating with local and global communities to ensure that research is relevant and impactful.
- Environmental Interactions: Exploring how people interact with their environments and the implications for heritage conservation.
Key Objectives
- Preserve Cultural Heritage: Develop strategies for the preservation and sustainable management of cultural heritage sites.
- Promote Social Cohesion: Foster a sense of belonging and identity through the study of cultural heritage.
